The Wedding Singer musical will finally receive a full-fledged London run at the venue where it will play for just one month only. The show will star Kevin Clifton as Robbie Hart, the iconic role made famous by Adam Sandler (Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore) in the original 1998 film of the same name.

The Wedding Singer musical synopsis
Based on the blockbuster hit of the same name, The Wedding Singer musical doesn't stray too far from the original source material. Set in 1985 when people rocked crazy-huge hairstyles, wannabe rockstar Robbie Hard is the most sought-after wedding singer in New Jersey.
But when his own fiancée leaves him jilted at the altar, he becomes seemingly scarred for life, slipping into a deep depression that leaves him wanting to ruin every wedding he attends out of revenge. Can the warmhearted Julia and her bestie Holly convince him to come out of the dumpster and get back to the stage? And will Julia walk the aisle to bewed Wall Street mogul Glenn?
Spotlight on Kevin Clifton
Born in 1982 in Waltham near Grimsby, Lincolnshire, Kevin Clifton is perhaps best known for his appearances on various televised dance competitions, including guest-starring on Dancing with the Stars in the US and on So You Think You Can Dance in the Netherlands, and of course competing on seven consecutive series of Strictly Come Dancing, in which he won the sixteenth series with TV presenter Stacey Dooley.
Other celebrity dance partners he's performed with on Strictly include journalist Susanna Reid (11th series), singer-songwriter Frankie Bridge (12th series), EastEnders actress Kellie Bright (13th series), 9 to 5 musical star and pop singer Lousie Redknapp (14th series), Scottish comedian Susan Calman (15th series), and Welsh presenter Anneka Rice (17th series).
Kevin Clifton made his musical theatre debut in 2010 when he starred in the Aldwych Theatre production of Dirty Dancing The Musical opposite So You Think You Can Dance winner Charlie Bruce. The Wedding Singer will see Clifton tread the boards once more after being featured as "Kevin from Grimsby" in the live dance production, Burn the Floor (which is also set to return for a new UK Tour).
Further casting for The Wedding Singer will be announced in due course.
About The Wedding Singer creative team and Broadway run
The musical adaptation features music and lyrics by Matthew Sklar, Chad Beguelin, and even Adam Sandler, as well as a book by Tim Herlihy and Beguelin.
The Broadway production of The Wedding Singer received eight Drama Desk Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations in total, including for Best Musical. Now the hit show will head to London for a limited run following two UK Tours in 2007 and 2017 respectively.
A match made in heaven?
The Wedding Singer film was the first collaboration between Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, who played Julia. After the movie grossed $123.3 million at the box office on an $18 million budget, the two actors reunited to star in two more rom-coms together: 50 First Dates (2004) and Blended (2014). Backed by rave success and great on-screen chemistry, it's no surprise Barrymore has expressed interest in teaming up with Sandler for yet another project.
Fans of the motion picture are anxious to find out who will play Julia in the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre run? Will Clifton reunite with his former Dirty Dancing co-star Charlie Bruce? And whoever his co-star may be, will the two have the same chemistry as Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore? Stay tuned!
