Gavin Alex
Gavin Alex, aka Gavin Alexander Wood, is a trained performer from Colchester. His highly skilled performances not only shows his involvement in plenty of West End productions but also a list of original London casts. He made his official West End debut at the London Palladium in Sam Mendes’ production of Oliver!, appearing as Dipper.
Training:
Gavin went to the Tiffany Stage Academy and Performers College in Essex to fully prepare to dive in the professional world of theatre.
Theatre:
He was an ensemble and also understudied Pepper in Mamma Mia! (Prince Edward Theatre, Prince of Wales Theatre, and Novello Theatre, 1999, 2001, 2002). He worked as an ensemble in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Aldwych Theatre, 2015, 2017) as an ensemble, Neil Sedaka Lou Adler; he also was an ensemble in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Savoy Theatre, 2014, 2015).
He made his West End debut in the production of Oliver! at the London Palladium, where he played Dipper. His first professional role, after graduation, happened as Pepper in Mamma Mia!, the ABBA jukebox music that became highly successful. Gavin took on the leading role of Joey in the UK Tour of Saturday Night Fever. He worked in Fame (Aldwych Theatre), playing Goody alongside Hugh Harold Harrison and Victoria Hamilton-Barritt.
His other theatre credits include Footloose (Novello Theatre, 2006) where he originated the roles of Cowboy Bob/Travis. Gavin was cast in another original London company, and this time he appeared in the West End production of Hairspray as Sketch (Shaftesbury Theatre, 2007). He toured the UK with Sister Act (2011), his role being of bodyguard Pablo; then he was in Wag! The Musical, where he played Charlie Chillcott (2013); Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; Painted Lady: The Scandal of Princess Caraboo (Bristol Old Vic Trust) and Of Thee, I Sing (Royal Festival Hall) among others.
