Ian Hughes

Ian Hughes is a famous actor in the West End theatre scene as well as the silver screen. Born and brought up in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, he has a tremendous level of experience on the stage.

 

Training:

He attended The National Youth Theatre of Wales, Birmingham University.

Theatre: Apart from having been part for various regional theatre projects in sites like Coventry, New York, Harrogate, Cardiff and Manchester, Ian has many theatre credits to date. Some of them are Edmund Kean in The Dramatic Exploits Of Edmund Kean in London and Washington DC, Khlestakov in The Government Inspector at the Clwyd Theatre, Franz Von Moor in The Robbers at The Gate, The Real Inspector Hound and Black Comedy (Donmar Warehouse Productions), Timon in The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre, Goran in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium, Henslowe in Shakespeare in Love at the Theatre Royal Bath.

Awards:

Ian received a special commendation for Hamlet at the Royal Shakespeare Company. He won the 1st Royal National Theatre/Ian Charleson Award for his portrayal of the lead in Tarquarto Tasso at The Lyric Hammersmith.

Film and TV:

Onscreen works include Bright Young Things, Death Of A Salesman, Swiss Tony, State Of Play, Blackpool, A Waste Of Shame, The Road To Guantanamo, Our Mutual Friends, MI High, Gavin And Stacy, Foyle’s War, Robin Hood, Margaret, Casualty, Holby City, Torchwood, Doctors, Stella, Eastenders, Dr Who, White Gold, Ransom, The Alienist, Shakespeare & Hathaway, and Seacole.

Radio:

His work in radio involves more than 40 radio programmes including Fairest Isle, The Wrong Box, All Things Betray Thee, Five Days In May, and Pandemic.

Audio: 

Ian Hughes did more than only acting and has always been involved in a variety of works. His audio credits include over 70 television documentary narrations and 15 plays for The Archangel Complete Shakespeare.
