Katy Brand

Katy Brand began to write and perform at a young age. She did her first professional comedy performances at the Edinburg Fringe, Ealing Film Studios, and Ealing Live! She came up with an ITV sketch show “Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show” in which she also starred. The show enjoyed three series and went on to become a nationwide tour. In 2008, it brought her a British Comedy Award and an RTS Award nomination.

She has worked in various film, television and radio shows while also continuing her live performances. Some of her works include Psychobitches, Mongrels, Grandpa’s Great Escape, and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. In 2016, Katy’s first stand-up comedy “I Was A Teenage Christian” was at the Edinburgh Fringe and then toured with it across the country.

In 2018, “3Women”, her debut play opened at Trafalgar Studios 2. In 2014, “Brenda Monk is Funny”, her debut novel was published. She is also the presenter of BBC Radio 4’s “The Origin of Stuff” and hosts the Penguin Podcast in which she interviews top-grossing authors about their new books.

 

Training:

When studying at University, Brand was in the Oxford Revue and Oxford University Drama Society.

Awards:

She won Best Female Newcomer (British Comedy Awards, 2008) and a Royal Television Society Award nomination.

Her television credit includes Casualty (BBC One, 2006); Hyperdrive (BBC Two, 2006); Tittybangbang (BBC Three, 2006); Rob Brydon’s Annually Retentive (BBC Three, 2007); Headcases (ITV, 2008); Argumental (Dave, 2010); Walking on Sunshine (Vertigo Films, 2014); Hank Zipzer (CBBC, 2016, 1 episode); Midsomer Murders (ITV, 2019, 1 episode).

Writing:

Brand has written scripts for Fudge Park, Vertigo Films, and Scott Free. Her writings were also used in many TV and radios shows, from Channel 4’s Peep Show to BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz.
