The Lonely Londoners Tickets
Based on Sam Selvon’s groundbreaking novel, the critically acclaimed production The Lonely Londoners is set to return to the stage at the Kiln Theatre for a limited run. This thought-provoking and captivating play delves into themes of identity, belonging, and illusion as it portrays post-World War II London, with a focus on the post-Windrush community. Don't miss the chance to see this impactful production, which is as relevant today as it was when it was first written.
About The Lonely Londoners
The play is set in 1950s London and follows Henry ‘Sir Galahead’ Oliver. He is ready to start a new life in London, carrying only his pyjamas and a toothbrush. When he bursts through Moses Aloetta’s door, he finds Moses and his friends already disenchanted with city life. Will the London fog dampen Galahad’s dreams, or will these Lonely Londoners make a home in a city that sees them as a threat?

Excellent: great to get a Trinidadian take on the Windrush generation, and humour in addition to a portrait of how hard it was.
My family and I booked the Lonely Londoners for my birthday. It was perfect! The cast, production and choreography were top class. I laughed, I cried and I reminisced. Having come to London from Trinidad myself and read this book as a child- it was even more special to see it portrayed so beautifully on the stage.
Very boring, long play about same story - white people are bad, black people are oppressed and abused by white society. Really? I feel more and more now as an oppressed white immigrant myself. The script is awful, long monologues, sometimes they dance (quite well I must say) and sometimes there is some singing (also good). I really wish that modern writers and directors used some classic knowledge about theatre making and how to keep the audience engaged.
Wow. What a show!!!
Wow, this was amazing. I loved the simplicity of the set, the symbolism of the dancing and the acting was amazing. Thought provoking without being aggressive, sad and funny - the best play I have seen in a long time.
These 7 wonderful actors did so much with so little. The performances were authentic and wonderful. Everything from the narrative flow, the sound design, the minimal use of props, was wonderful. The only thing I struggled with was some of the lighting, which (while fitting to the story) was sometimes extremely bright.
Gentle, humourful tale of struggles by migrant Trinidadians in an unwelcoming but beguiling 1950s London. They barely survive farcical episodes through their innate humanity and dependence on each other. Interludes of modern dance, music and sound play helpfully on these themes. The Kiln Theatre - small and cosy in the heart of bustling modern-day Kilburn, was a gem in itself. It provided the perfect setting for an intimate and thoughtful evening.
Absolutely LOVED Lonely Londoners. Such a moving, humours look at London, its history, diversity, the Windrush generation, the Black experience, racism and our joint humanity. I laughed, cried and everything in between.
It was brilliant - both funny and sad. Excellent character portrayal The dancing was superb.
Sceptical at the start, but really got into the story. Great insight into the hardships for migrants from the caribean at that time. The cast were excellent in their roles. The smattering of humour was very well received.
I read the book during my A-Level research years ago and was so excited to see this important story being celebrated in a UK theatre, so had to come see it! The team didn’t disappoint - phenomenal acting, choreography, singing and costume. The Caribbean accents were on point too and the storytelling overall was great. I loved it so much and hope it goes on to more theatres in future - well done and thank you for honouring our community through this representation. Samuel would be proud ????
