For this new production, they present a flood of exciting new works along with modern classics in an exciting mixed programme that demonstrates why they’re at the top of their league with their unmatched skill.

Programme A opens with Rennie Harris’ newest work Lazurus. Following the success of the UK premiere of Exodus at Sadler’s Wells in 2015, his newest piece uses the language of hip hop to explore the life and work of the company’s founder, Alvin Ailey. The intriguing score mixes original music with the classics of Nina Simone and even Ailey’s own voice.

Revelations, widely considered Alvin Ailey’s masterpiece, and the company’s signature piece, will end each of the shows. This piece is performed as a closing prayer which deviates between grief and elation as it explores the cultural heritage of African-American’s spirituality. The performance is accompanied by an emotional score of gospel music and blues.
