Are tickets for Tell Me On A Sunday coming to London?
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black’s classic Tell Me on a Sunday is a one-woman musical that charts the course of a young English girl newly arrived in New York.
About Tell Me On A Sunday
Full of hope and seeking success, companionship and love she journeys through the maze of the city and her own anxieties. As time goes on, she begins to wonder if she has indeed been looking for love in all the wrong places after all. Featuring some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most recognised songs including “Tell Me On A Sunday”, “Unexpected Song” and “Take That Look Off Your Face”. Denise Van Outen, Jodie Prenger and Bernadette Peters, as well as Marti Webb, have featured in previous productions and taken on this one-woman tour-de-force of a show.
The creatives of Tell Me On A Sunday
Music for the show is composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who has written over 21 musicals, as well as a song cycle, a set of variations, two film scores, and a Latin Requiem Mass. Lyrics by Don Black famed for works such as Sunset Boulevard, Aspects of Love and also for co-writing at least three James Bond theme songs.
The pair created the show whilst in rehearsals for Evita in 1979 with the idea to showcase a solo female performer to their very best. The positive reception that the show received when it was first performed at the Sydmonton Festival in 1979 led to the show being recorded as an album. Subsequently the show was filmed at The Royalty Theatre in January 1980 and broadcast on the BBC the following month.
