What is The Bridges of Madison County musical about?
The Bridges of Madison County is set in the swinging 1960s and follows an Italian housewife and immigrant named Francesca Johnson who leads a seemingly blissful, simple life on a farm in the American Midwest. But when her family embarks on a trip to the Iowa State Fair, she runs into a stranger named Robert Kincaid, a photographer for the National Geographic who has come to Madison County, Iowa on an assignment to shoot photos of covered bridges in the area. What starts out as an innocent friendship quickly unfolds into a full-blown affair, which reaps detrimental consequences on both of their lives.

The show was amazing. Acting was outstanding.
Enjoyable and entertaining.
Terrible direction. Trevor Nunn's awkward set and intrusive direction only detracted from this mediocre musical.
The Bridges Of Madison County at The Menier Chocolate Factory was stunning. I have read the book many times (and still cry every time), I have seen the film and I was looking forward to this production - it did not disappoint. I cried all over again for Francessca Johnson and Robert Kincaid. The whole cast were fantastic. Brilliant
Thank you!
Well acted, sung and sympathetic to the book and film
The performances were outstanding and I was hooked on every moment. The cast were a beautiful blend and had an equally strong presence on the stage. When I was told the play would be as long as it was, I had my reservations, but the first half was so gripping it felt timeless. not having seen the film and not knowing the plot I found the second half equally as gripping. Quite an emotional second half. Fabulous
I thought that the direction and performances were wonderful. The music rose to emotional levels and reflected the heartache of the story. A first rate piece of theatre. Only one observation that being that the show lasts too long. In my opinion a cut of 10-15 mins wouldn’t harm the storyline. Many in the audience were a bit restless towards the end. Verdict? A great night out.
Nice music. Small but close theatre. I enjoyed a lot. Thank you.
Excellent production
Fabulous singing, and very moving. The set on the revolve was perfect and fitted the historical context. What was lovely was the cast’s verve abs enjoyment,
