What is Anna Bella Eema about?
Anna Bella Eema is in some part a ghost story, fairy tale and coming of age fantasy. From the dark heart of American Gothic, we see a precocious young girl, Annabella, as she learns to coexist with vampires, werewolves and monsters who lurk in the world outside the deserted trailer park where she lives. She’s schooled by her peculiar mother Irene and is desperate to protect their home from demolition by the new highway that threatens the park. Annabella steps outside and builds a girl out of mud, who comes to life. This girl is Anna Bella Eema.
Who is Lisa D’Amour?
Lisa D’Amour is a playwright, performer and co-artistic director of PearlDamour. D’Amour’s playwrighting credits began in the early 2000s and many of her works have gone on to receive various awards, establishing her rising success. Her most popular play is Airline Highway which marked her Broadway debut and earned four Tony Award-nominations and three Drama Desk Award nominations including Outstanding Play. Anna Bella Eema will mark D’Amour’s UK premiere.
