Hadestown London Tickets
Combining elements of Greek mythology intertwined with a folk and blues-inspired score, Hadestown explores the complex love story of Orpheus and Eurydice in a post-apocalyptic world.
Orpheus, a talented musician, falls in love with Eurydice, a young woman who is searching for a better life. Together they plan to leave the bleak and industrialised Hadestown in favour of the above-ground world, where they hope to find happiness and prosperity. However, when the ruler of Hadestown offers Eurydice a job tempting her with the promise of security and comfort, she reluctantly accepts his offer, breaking Orpheus’s heart. Devastated by Eurydice’s decision, Orpheus resolves to go to Hadestown to rescue her, but will he succeed or will his love, and chance of escape, be lost forever?

Hadestown Hits All The Right Notes
The journey to the West End, via a trip to the underworld, has taken creator, Anaïs Mitchell, and her team over 17 years to complete. Originating in Vermont back in 2006, the production has since had many incarnations, playing in Massachusetts, off-Broadway, Edmonton, London, and Broadway before it finally landed in the West End.
The production has picked up a legion of fans everywhere it has played and has smashed records along the way. Due to overwhelming audience demand at the 2016 world premiere, the hellraising musical quickly became the longest-running show in the New York Theatre Workshop’s 40-year history.
Hadestown marks the first time in over a decade that a woman has been the solo author of a musical: writing the music, lyrics, and book, and is only the fourth time in Broadway history that a woman has accomplished this creative feat. The previous productions headed by a woman were The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin, Runaways and A Tale of Two Cities.
Awards and Fun Facts
- The Broadway production received 14 Tony Award nominations, the most for any show at the 2019 ceremony. Of the nominations, the musical took home eight awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
- The Broadway cast recording won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
- In addition to the Grammy and Tony wins, the mythical musical also won four Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Awards, and an ACCA Award.
- The actors in the Broadway production gave out flowers, similar to those featured in the artwork, to audience members who greeted them at the Stage Door.
- The original Vermont production didn’t have a script. The story developed through the songs and improvisation.
- Unsure of the future of the musical, a concept album was released after the initial Vermont and Masachutes tour back in 2010.
- Billy Bragg is an adoring fan, covering the track "Why We Build the Wall" on his 2018 album, Bridges Not Walls.
- The cast recording of the musical debuted at #8 on the Top Album chart in the US, before it took home the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Original Broadway cast of Hadestown continue their jouneys in the West End
Original cast members of the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway production of Hadestown will continue their journeys to the underworld as they reprise their critically acclaimed roles for a limited run at the Lyric Theatre! From 11 February until 9 March 2025, Reeve Carney (Orpheus), André De Shields (Hermes), Amber Gray (Persephone), Eva Noblezada (Eurydice) and Patrick Page (Hades) will tread the boards in the West End.
Producer Mara Issacs said: It is nothing short of divine magic to be able to welcome Reeve, Andre, Amber, Eva, and Patrick back to London. This transatlantic collaboration, which began with the National Theatre production in 2018, is baked into Hadestown's DNA. We couldn't be more thrilled to bring them 'home' as Hadestown continues its love affair with the West End.
The production opened to huge critical acclaim at the Lyric Theatre this year, five years after a sold-out engagement at the National Theatre. The musical has been one hell of a hit, and is now booking in the West End until 28 September 2025.

First look at the new Hadestown cast
New cast members will be jumping on board the multi award-winning musical! From 27 August 2024, Dylan Wood will make his West End debut to play Orpheus, whilst Madeline Charlemagne, who has played a Fate since the launch of Hadestown in the West End last year, will step into the role of Eurydice.
Wood and Charlemagne will join Zachary James as Hades, Melanie La Barrie as Hermes, and Gloria Onitiri as Persephone who each continue in their critically acclaimed roles.
Bella Brown and Allie Daniel will play the Fates, alongside super swings Lauren Azania, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, Beth Hinton-Lever, Waylon Jacobs, and Christopher Short continue to play the Workers, with Lucinda Buckley, Winny Herbert, Ryesha Higgs, Ediz Mahmut, Miriam Nyarko, Brianna Ogunbawo and Simon Oskarsson.

The Lyric Theatre Best Seats and Seating Plan
Shaftesbury Avenue is the beating heart of London's West End, with an impressive four theatres standing on the stagey street. The Lyric Theatre is the longest standing resident, having opened in 1888. Its neighbours, The Apollo Theatre, Gielgud Theatre and Sondheim Theatre all opened their doors two decades and one century later, in the early 1900s, making them mere babies in comparison.
Designed by the architect C J Phipps, The Lyric Theatre was originally built for operetta and has since hosted a wide range of drama, comedy and musicals, including Five Guys Named Mo, By Jeeves, Cabaret and Thriller Live! which ran for eleven years, from 2009 until 2020. The theatre is currently home to Hadestown, the Tony & Grammy winning musical.
What are the best seats at the Lyric Theatre
Choosing the best seats at The Lyric Theatre can depend on your personal preferences and the type of show you're seeing. The Stalls sit on the ground level of the theatre, and are great if you want to feel close to the action. Due to the shape of the auditorium, and the number of pillars needed to support the historic building, there are several restricted view seats in the Stalls at lower cost, which could be good for those hoping to rewatch your favourite show on a budget. Some seats surrounding premium seats in the Stalls offer a very similar view for around £20 less!
Go up one level and you will find the Dress Circle. The smallest section in the auditorium, it offers fantastic views of the whole stage. Dress Circle Box seats also sit at this level, and are positioned away from the rest of the seating banks at the sides of the theatre. Priced comparably to seats in the Upper Circle, the Boxes offer great value and an elevated experience due to the privacy and additional space for you and your party.
Up another level and you’ll find yourself in the Upper Circle. This section offers great value seats, and fantastic views, especially if sat in the middle of the row. Due to the horseshoe layout at this level, the seats at the end of the row have a side-angle view of the stage.
Above the Upper Circle you’ll find the Balcony (because Uppest isn’t a word). This is the highest section of the Lyric Theatre and offers good views due to its steep rake. The legroom is smaller than the other sections in the theatre, so if you’re blessed with long legs, you may find the other levels are better suited.
