Waitress the Musical tickets are available for the Dartford run now!

Waitress is one musical pie that you'll be begging to get second helpings of! You might have tried the first batch, but with a new UK tour, you'll want to come back to the table! Waitress is on the menu at Dartford's Orchard Theatre for 8 performances only!

Waitress has all the right ingredients

Waitress, based on the 2007 indie classic of the same name, hit the spot on Broadway and has been served up slices of musical delight at the London's Adelphi Theatre in the West End before embarking on a UK tour.

Jenna doesn’t have much going for her, she doesn’t mind her job as a waitress at the local diner but it isn’t going anywhere. Her relationship with her husband Earl is loveless and abusive. To escape it all she bakes, her pies are the talk of the town, but soon her pies aren’t the only thing about Jenna that have tongues wagging. Shortly after discovering she is pregnant, one of the last things she wants to be, Jenna begins an affair with her new gynaecologist, Dr Pomatter, who is also married. Jenna decides that she needs a way out and a pie baking contest and its grand prize is her way to get a new lease on life, but things don’t go exactly to plan.

Waitress cast and creatives

The Dartford run will star Chelsea Halfpenny (9 to 5, BBC’s Casualty, ITV’s Emmerdale) as our titular waitress Jenna. She will be joined by Wendy Mae Brown (The Book of Dust, Ghost The Musical) as Becky, and Evelyn Hoskins (Waitress, Spring Awakening) as Dawn. David Hunter (Waitress, Once, Kinky Boots) reprises his role as Dr Pomatter.

Waitress has music and lyrics by American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and a book by Jessie Nelson based on the film of the same name by Adrienne Shelly. The Waitress Musical is currently in its third year on Broadway. It made history as the first show with an all-female creative team. This team, including choreographer Lorin Latarro and multi-Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus, will return for the London premiere, Waitress has won or been nominated for many awards, including nominations for  4 Tony Awards and a Grammy.

Waitress musical songs and albums

The musical features such toe-tapping numbers as "She Used to Be Mine", "It Only Takes a Taste", "What Baking Can Do", "I Didn't Plan It", and more! In addition to an Original Broadway Cast Recording, which is available to stream on Spotify, an album featuring previously unreleased songs was released on Friday, 16 August 2019 entitled What's Not Inside: The Lost Songs From Waitress. The album includes seven new numbers, such as "Knocked Up You", "Falling in Love Pie", "Happy Enough", and more. London Waitress star Sara Bareilles reveals she had coronavirus and has now "fully recovered"

West End Waitress actress Sara Bareilles revealed in an Instagram story that she had contracted COVID-19 but has now fully recovered. The Grammy Award-winning songstress was originally meant to play Jenna Hunterson alongside Gavin Creel as Dr Pomatter until 21 March 2020 after the two extended their runs at the Adelphi Theatre, but they were forced to cut their performances short due to a rumoured travel ban between the US and the UK.

Bareilles and Creel made their final performances on the 14th March just before US President Donald Trump announced that the United Kingdom and Ireland would be included in his Europe-wide travel ban effective 04:00 GMT Tuesday, 17 March 2020. A suspension of SOLT and UK Theatre performances was then announced on 16 March, followed by the confirmed cancellation of Waitress' West End run last week.

Interview with Waitress London hero Desi Oakley

Did you miss the news that Waitress London was recently saved by Broadway actress Desi Oakley when the West End Jenna’s (Lucie Jones, Sarah O’Connor and Olivia Moore) were too ill to put on the apron? After flying over especially, initially just for a week, Desi has saved the West End production of everyone’s favourite pie show by being our Jenna for almost two weeks now before Sara Bareilles takes over next week (from 27 January).

We were lucky enough to catch up with the star and ask her a few burning (don’t worry – not pie burning) questions all about her West End Waitress experience. Read below to see what Desi Oakley had to say…
