One of the most heavily anticipated shows set to make its West End debut -and one I am extremely excited about- is the Tony Award winning musical Kinky Boots! The show tells the story of Charlie Price, who inherits a shoe factory from his father. Things aren't really going to plan, so in order to save the business, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret/ drag performer, Lola. With Lola's help, Charlie develops a plan to produce a line of high-heeled boots to appeal to a different clientele. In the process, he and Lola discover that they are not so different after all. The music in this show is so powerful, with heart wrenching ballads, such as 'I'm Not My Father's Son', and upbeat numbers such as 'In This Corner'.
Another show that a lot of people are eager to see is Aladdin, which arrives in the West End in 2016, but replaces the immense Miss Saigon. The show is based on the 1992 Disney film and follows the familiar tale of how a poor young man discovers a genie in a lamp who then grants him 3 wishes. He falls in love with the Princess, but realises that, because he is a 'street rat', he has no chance at all to marry her. Aladdin then uses his wishes to change the situation so that he can marry the princess that he loves and to thwart the Sultan's evil Grand Vizier. This is such a magical musical and I can't wait for it to make its West End debut at last!
And finally, the thing I am most excited for is the cast change for Phantom of The Opera! John Owen Jones will take over the titular role from September the 7th and will be joined by Celinde Schoenmaker as Christine. After seeing John Owen Jones and being a huge fan for many years, I can't wait to see him in such a phenomenal role! My tickets shall definitely be on order and yours should be too!
