Tickets on sale now for Cyrano de Bergerac starring James McAvoy
Written in 1897, Edmond Rostand’s magnum opus Cyrano de Bergerac is regarded by many as one of the most significant pieces in French literature of all time and has been staged and revived countless times in the UK and the West End. The last notable revival was the 2009 Chichester Festival Theatre production, which starred renowned film and stage actor Joseph Fiennes. This production will see one of the biggest film actors of our generation, James McAvoy (set to star in Stephen King’s IT Chapter Two this year), don the big prosthetic nose. You’ll witness the X-Men star serve you Pinocchio-Cyrano realness this November.
James McAvoy will once again team up with Jamie Lloyd, who has spearheaded the new production of Cyrano as part of his new season after his recent, highly successful Pinter at the Pinter season, whose final play Betrayal starring Tom Hiddleston broke box office records at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London. The pair last worked together on Macbeth and The Ruling Class at the West End’s Trafalgar Studios.
James McAvoy initially hinted at the new Cyrano de Bergerac play two years ago when he posted a photo of himself on Instagram dressed as Professor X whilst wearing a long, fake nose and reading the Martin Crimp script.

The upcoming revival and reimagining of Cyrano de Bergerac is directed by Jamie Lloyd and adapted by Martin Crimp from Edmond Rostand’s original work. The classic play with a modern edge boasts set design by award-winning British designer Soutra Gilmour, who in 2012 won the Evening Standard Award for Best Set Design for her work on Inadmissible Evidence at the Donmar Warehouse and Antigone at the National Theatre.
Also on the creative team for the new London production are Ben and Max Ringham (The Girl On The Train, Betrayal, When The Crow's Visit) providing sound and composition, fight director Kate Waters who often goes by KombatKate, lighting designer Jon Clark (Betrayal, Pinter One, Pinter Three, Pinter Four and Pinter Five), and casting director Stuart Burt (Sister Act for the 2020 UK Tour, Guys and Dolls at the Crucible, How The Grinch Stole Christmas at the Lowry Theatre).
