The incredible cast of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg
The new production images from Marc Brenner offer a first-hand look at the cast hard at work on this new production. Storme Toolis (The Inbetweeners, New Tricks) plays the titular role. The actress is a great advocate for the rights of disabled actors to play disabled roles, and her portrayal marks the first time the West End history of the show that this has been done. Playing her parents are Toby Stephens (Die Another Day, Oslo, Lost in Space) and Claire Skinner (Outnumbered, The Glass Menagerie, The Father, Nightfall) with Patricia Hodge (Miranda, Hotel du Lac, Money, Downton Abbey) as her grandmother. They are joined by Athena Stevens, Clarence Smith, Harry Attwell, Lucy Eaton, and Rebecca Hands-Wick.
Joe Nichol's A Day in the Death of Joe Egg
Based on the author's own experiences raising his daughter, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg focuses on a pair of parents who use humour and escapism to cope with the daily stresses of life as they raise their disabled daughter. Funny, heartbreaking, touching and urgent, this show is one that must be seen. The show is playing at London's Trafalgar Studios through 30 November. It is directed by Simon Evans (Killer Joe) with design by Olivier Award-winner Peter McKintosh (Crazy for You, Hello, Dolly!, The 39 Steps), with lighting by Prema Mehta and sound and composition by Ed Lewis.
