The current cast including Ramin Karimloo, Hadley Fraser, Caroline Sheen, Alexia Khadime, Craig Mather and Liam Tamne have created a video filmed on the Queens Theatre stage campaigning for votes.
The award is the only one that can be voted for by the public for this year's awards ceremony which will be held on 15th April at the Royal Opera House. The awards are presented annually by the Society Of London Theatres and are recognised internationally as the highest award in stage, similar to the BAFTAS in film and television. They are named after renowned British actor Sir Laurence Olivier, who gave his blessing in 1984 for the Society of West End Theatre Awards, as they were previously known since their inception in 1976, to be now known as the Olivier Awards. Last year's winner of the Best Actress in a Musical award Sheridan Smith said at the time: "I can’t believe I’ve won a Laurence Olivier Award. I feel like I’m completely blagging it and this man never did."
Les Miserables is up against Billy Elliot, Jersey Boys and Wicked for the Audience Award. Votes can be placed at olivierawards.com until 5pm on 11 April.
