NT Live set to broadcast James McAvoy in 'Cyrano de Bergerac', Maxine Peake, and more

It has just been announced that NT Live will be broadcasting X-Men star James McAvoy in Jamie Lloyd's production of Cyrano de Bergerac along with other big-name actors, including Maxine Peake (Black Mirror's "Metalhead" episode).



Upcoming broadcasts by National Theatre Live

It has been formally announced today that the year 2020 will see National Theatre Live broadcast performances of James McAvoy in Cyrano de BergeracMaxine Peake in The Welkin, Jessie Buckley and Josh O'Connor in a new National production of Romeo and Juliet, and Oliver Chris and Richard Bean's Jack Absolute Flies Again.

Edmond Rostand's classic play Cyrano de Bergerac, which has been freely adapted by Martin Crimp and is directed by Jamie Lloyd, will be broadcast live from the West End's Playhouse Theatre on 20 February 2020. The highly-anticipated play starring James McAvoy opens this month on 27 November.

Lucy Kirkwood's The Welkin starring Maxine Peake and Ria Zmitrowicz will be broadcast live from the Lyttelton Theatre (now currently showing Master Harold and the boyson 21 May 2020. The thriller is directed by James Macdonald.

Dates for Jack Absolute Flies Again and Romeo and Juliet have yet to be pencilled in.

National Theatre Live celebrates 10 years of broadcasting

2019 marks many new milestones for NT Live as it has now been officially broadcasting shows for 10 years. As of now, there have been over 80 stage productions screened in roughly 3,500 venues worldwide, and NT Live's broadcasts have been seen by approximately nine million audience members. Sponsored by Sky Arts, National Theatre Live is currently screening for about 2,500 cinemas across 65 countries.

The next screening this year by NT Live will be Present Laughter, the hit Noel Coward comedy starring Andrew Scott. The play was filmed during its phenomenal sell-out run at The Old Vic this past summer and will be screened in cinemas on 28 November.
