Will the Lyric Hammersmith Noises Off cast reprise their roles?
When the transfer was being negotiated and rumours spiralled, big talks revolved around whether the same cast would be reprising their roles. Following how well received they have been off-West End it was only right to have the same cast. The cast includes Meera Syal (Pinter at the Pinter, Harold Pinter Theatre), Lois Chimimba (Three Sisters, Almeida Theatre), Jonathan Cullen (Merry Wives of Windsor, RSC), Debra Gillet (Limehouse, Donmar Warehouse), Amy Morgan (Exit The King, National Theatre), Enyi Okoronkwo (Tartuffe, National Theatre), Lloyd Owen (The Bodyguard, Adelphi Theatre), Daniel Rigby (Twelfth Night, National Theatre), and Simon Rouse (The Dresser, Duke of York’s Theatre).
What is Noises Off about?
Written originally in 1982, Michael Frayn’s hysterical farce became an instant British classic. Noises Off was the original The Play That Goes Wrong, being a hilarious play shown from behind and taking its name from the theatrical stage direction meaning there is noise coming from off-stage. Each act shows performances of a play within a play by the name of Nothing On. The play spans from the technical rehearsal to a matinee performance one week through the run and to a performance near the end of its 10-week run. It begins with simple mishaps like missed cues and missed lines to offstage shenanigans and onstage bedlams.
