Sam Mendes’ The Lehman Trilogy opens at the Piccadilly Theatre on 11 May 2019 following a New York run at the Park Avenue Armoury.
The piece, which features hardly any dialogue, takes on a narrative form and follows two centuries of the Lehman family from the moment the first Lehman arrived from Bavaria to the collapse of the family empire 163 years later. With an exploration of the progress, as well as the pitfalls, of capitalism as its backdrop, the play offers a comprehensive and compelling experience. Though it avoids covering the 2008 financial crisis – the devastating period that forced Lehman Brothers to file for bankruptcy – the aptly titled The Lehman Trilogy chronicles the rise and fall associated with “third-generation syndrome,” in which the first generation creates, the second generation maintains the first generation’s creation, and the third generation begins to destroy it.
The Lehman Trilogy, which was adapted from the Stefano Massini novel by Ben Power, received rave reviews when it premiered back in July at the National Theatre, where it is currently playing until 20 October 2018. It stars Adam Godley, Ben Miles and Simon Russell Beale, who are all set to reprise their roles for the West End transfer.
The play features designs by Es Devlin, costume design by Katrina Lindsay, sound design by Nick Powell, lighting design by Jon Clark, video design by Luke Halls, music direction by Candida Caldicot, and movement by Polly Bennett.
Don’t miss the exciting and critically acclaimed production of The Lehman Trilogy as it transfers to the West End next summer!
