Porgy and Bess Tickets

Loved the production and cast, particularly Porgy who had an amazing voice and presence on the stage. The chorus was excellent,. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Worth the trip from Edinburgh. X

I have loved the music of Gershwin since I was a teenager, 50 years ago and have been waiting for this performance for years. I have personally corresponded with Ira, conducted Gershwin's own Porgy and Bess Suite using the same orchestral parts that George used in his 30s tour with a photocopy of his original score. I co-wrote a musical entitled 'By George' that was declared the Midlands Musical of the Year by the Birmingham Post. This performance at the Coliseum was the best possible. Perhaps Nicole Cabell (a wonderful performer) was too operatic for the part of Bess, but she and the whole of the rest of the cast were magnificent. Tears streamed down my face as I listened to Serena's My Man's Gone Now. The selected cuts (including the opening jazz piano and chorus of the opening) generally tightened up the story and the recitatives worked flawlessly. I look forward to the recording... Thank you! Fabulous production ...cast, sets, orchestra and of course the excellent Porgy. Well Done

Well staged. Some good voices although many of them too vibrato for my taste. Love the opera, seen it several times before. We had a good time.

My friend and I had Balcony seats rows K and J. Unbearably uncomfortable - literally; we had to leave at the interval. Seat depth (front to back) far too shallow, rigidly upright backs, no legroom and very little padding. People all around us were complaining of the same. Throughout show the audience were shifting, bobbing about and clearly uncomfortable. These seats should be marked as unsuitable for people with musculo-skeletal problems, tall people, outsize people, claustrophobic people, people who like to be able to concentrate on the show they paid to see, etc. You get the picture.

My wife and I thought that it was outstanding. Magnificent performances by all cast - special mention to the understudy for Sandra.
