The Magic Flute is one of the greatest and most popular operas ever written. Mozart himself could not enjoy its complexity and beauty during his lifetime as he died before he had a chance to stage the opera. This masterpiece might have been lost forever if it were not for his widow Constanze, who offered to send a manuscript score of The Magic Flute to a court Bonn and the score was published another 25 years later.

Mozart’s timeless classic explores the search for true love and wisdom as the royal prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno must overcome a series of trials in order to rescue Pamina from the grasp of the manipulative Queen of Night.

This is a wonderfully theatrical and imaginative staging from Complicite artistic director Simon McBurney at the London Coliseum, where live sound effects and breathtaking animations help bring this captivating tale to life.

The unforgettable storytelling will be matched by music-making of the very highest level, with ENO Music Director Mark Wigglesworth conducting a world-class cast including Allan Clayton as Tamino and Lucy Crowe as Pamina.

‘Startling humour and theatrical wizardry’ The Observer

IT was an amazing production-the staging was brilliant and drawing in the audience just added to a wonderful production.

GAELANE PELEN

Really beautiful show, the direction was great, very original. But I did not fency all the costums (especially Tamino and Pamina who were the only characters without shoes I did not see the point) The Queen was amazing !

Great performance Original scenografie I liked it

I booked the tickets for my husband who loves opera but has never seen a performance live. This production is brilliant. The modern take on The Magic Flute is done with the obvious love of the opera with the injection of humour, creative animation and superb performances from everyone in the cast. I would recommend this production to anyone whether they are opera lovers or not.

Anthony Loftus

We did not feel that the staging was as good as previous Complicite productions.

Justina Kanceviciute

The show was Brilliant! I had a great time.

Mozart well played is always splendid. The production I saw last night had some amusing technical features, but I dislike plays and operas written in a distant era performed in modern dress. English made clearer than I had realised before just how silly the plot of The Magic Flute really is. Sung in Italian or German, this would have been less obvious. The man characters were well performed.

It was my first time at the opera and I was mesmerised! I could not take my eyes off the performers who were quite wonderful and so entertaining and professional , I am not really qualified to be a critic one way or another I just know that I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and i would love to repeat it with another opera sometime
