Oresteia is brought to you from the Almeida Theatre - a venue renowned for introducing ground-breaking, critically acclaimed transfers to the West End. Following Chimerica, Ghosts, King Charles III and 1984, Oresteia at Trafalgar Studios is their most recent exhilarating theatrical feat.
A huge, moving, bloody saga, the original of all family dramas, Aeschylus' greatest and final play asks whether justice can ever be done?
Part Godfather, part Breaking Bad, this new reimagined version of the epic Greek saga is the unmissable event of the year.
Directed by Robert Icke (Mr. Burns; 1984) and starring Lia Williams (Old Times; Earthquakes in London) as Klytemnestra and Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) as Electra.

This may be the finest theatrical event I have ever seen: brilliantly conceived and perfectly realized. In short, a triumph. I was deeply inspired.
Excellent production if a little long. Theatre needs to do something about the air conditioning as it was very warm for a night in November.

I think I would have liked it a lot - except that there was so much of it that I couldn't hear. If the mikes could have been notched up a bit, I am sure it would have been a great joy -possibly a 5 star experience - but as it was I had to strain and strain and guess and guess. Others around me in row c were similarly affected. Had I known this beforehand I would not have gone. PLEASE make sure the play is audible throughout!
Very powerful haunting drama. Deserves the great reviews. The time ticked by so quickly as it was so gripping.

What a fantastic play. Great performances by all the cast. The spirit of Aeschylus permeated the play. Well done for bringing this play to the west end and keeping Greek theatre alive.
A marathon of an event. Going on a Friday night was not the best, already tired from week's work. Harrowing narrative but ultimately enforcing the tragedy of 'an eye for an eye' vengeance and the importance of interrupting trauma down the generations. Locating it in contemporary times worked well. The fate of Electra not clear and so was puzzling. Sometimes the actors' voices were too soft and diction not so clear. The auditorium was too hot. The child actors excellent especially the Iphigenia character. Her presence was haunting- very powerful.
Oresteia was by far one of the best theatrical productions I have ever seen in London. Excellent direction and performances by everyone, especially Jessica Brown Findley.
Brilliant performances all round. Liked the use of a large screen.

Review: Oresteia Is 'Impressive, Artistic And Thought-Provoking'
Oresteia, currently playing at Trafalgar Studios, is a contemporary retelling of the Greek tragedy. Adapted by Robert Icke (who also adapted 1984), the production is passionate, subtle and stylistic. The more you think about Oresteia, the better it gets.
