The Pulitzer Prize-winning play Buried Child by Sam Shepard is finally making its way to the West End!

For the first time, the multi award winning international star Ed Harris will appear on the West End stage in the critically acclaimed New York production of Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Buried Child,  along with Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominated Amy Madigan.

Charlotte Hope (Game of Thrones, Allied, A United Kingdom), Jack Fortune (King Lear, Route Irish, Sparkling Cyanide), Barnaby Kay (A Streetcar Named Desire, The Real Thing, Wuthering Heights) and Gary Shelford (Twelfth Night, Angry Young Man) and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, Great Expectations) join the previously announced multi award-winning!

Set in 1979 rural America as it reels from a recession and political unrest, the similarities between then and now are compelling in the run up to the American Presidential Election. Casting a brutal light on disenfranchised Americans, Buried Child is a dark, macabre and painfully funny family drama that is as relevant now as it was during its first run almost 40 years ago.

Ed Harris is a five time Oscar Nominee and Golden Globe winner. A giant of the America film industry and recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Harris’s film credits include; Apollo 13, The Rock, The Truman Show, The Hours and Pollock. He also won a Golden Globe Away for playing Senator John McCain in Game Changer. This autumn, Harris will star in the premier of HBO’s sci-fi drama Westworld. Joining Harris is Jeremy Irvine (Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, The Railway Man, Now is Good and forthcoming films Fallen, Billionaire Boys Club, and This Beautiful Fantastic) making his West End debut. Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominated Amy Madigan reprises her role from the New York production.

One of greatest and most significant American playwrights of his generation, Sam Shepard has penned over forty-five plays including; A Lie Of The Mind (New York Drama Critics Circle Award), True West and Fool For Love.

‘Shepard leaves no doubt that you are in the hands of a master-dramatist, capable of combining the naturalistic and the mythic, with rare panache.’ Daily Telegraph

From the creative team that brought you the smash-hit sold-out run of the New York transfer of The Spoils starring Jesse Eisenberg.

REVIEW: Buried Child at the Trafalgar Studios

Scott Elliott’s revival of Sam Shepard’s 1978 masterpiece Buried Child at theTrafalgar Studios, presents a broken, dysfunctional American family stuck in a world of secrecy and denial. The outlook is bleak – a dark family secret hangs in the air like the ever-present rain.
