Nina Raine’s Consent has now opened at the Harold Pinter after completing the 2017 critically acclaimed sell-out run at the Dorfman Theatre. Directed by Roger Michell and originally co-produced and commissioned by Out of Joint, Consent is at the Harold Pinter Theatre until 11 August for a strictly limited 12-week run.

The cast includes Claudie Blakley, Stephen Campbell Moore, Heather Craney and Adam James with further casting to be announced. Set is by Hildegard Bechtler, with costumes by Dinah Collin, lighting by Rick Fisher, music by Kate Whitley, sound by John Leonard and casting by Amy Ball CDG.

Why is Justice blind? Is she impartial? Or is she blinkered?  Friends take opposing briefs in a contentious legal case. The key witness is a woman whose life seems a world away from theirs. At home, their own lives begin to unravel as every version of the truth is challenged.

This ‘tense, entertaining modern-day tragi-comedy’ (Daily Telegraph) takes a searing look at the law whilst putting modern relationships into the dock.

Nina Raine’s West End transfer of Consent could not have come at a better time. With the #metoo campaign gaining momentum daily (as it should), Consent manages to open up our eyes just a little bit further to an issue that is often brushed under the rug.

Consent

Consent is ultimately a play about relationships. The relationships they have with their friends, their lovers and in the case of Ed (Stephen Campbell-Moore) and Tim (Lee Ingleby) their clients in a rape trial. Whilst the issue of Consent often appears it is often in the context of these relationships and what happens when consent breaks down or wrongly assumed to be given.
