Longer answer… a married couple, Reem and her husband Sayeed are ready to share a serious play about Palestine in the year 2043. The Fifth Intifada is just around the corner and naturally, people are tense and a bit on edge. And yet, near their village of Beit al-Qadir on a contested piece of land is where this couple are about to go dogging. Yes, you read that correctly! But not to worry, it’s okay to laugh.

This is a political play with a comedic twist that takes a look at how the every-day becomes politics and vice versa, and in a zone of conflict, no less.

A look behind the writer of two Palestinians go dogging, Sami Ibrahim

Sami Ibrahim is a young writer from London. He has previously worked with the Almeida Theatre as a member of their creative board where together they developed and produced a piece of immersive theatre entitled From the Ground Up. His current play, two Palestinians go dogging, was the first winner of the Theatre Uncut Political Playwriting Award in 2019. This is the UK’s first political playwriting prize and Ibrahim’s play was chosen out of 444 entries across the UK.

His other plays include Wind Bit Bitter, Bit Bit Bit Her (2018 VAULT Festival), Iron Dome Fog Dome (The Yard) and Force of Trump (Brockley Jack).

Who is directing Sami Ibrahim's two Palestinians go dogging, the political award-winning play?

two Palestinians go dogging will be directed by award-winning international director, Omar Elerian. Born in Italy with an Italian mother and a Palestinian father, he grew up travelling. He graduated in Modern Literature and Theatre Studies in Milan in 2002 and then later graduated from the Jacques Lecoq International Theatre School in Paris in 2005. He began work as an Associate Director at the Bush Theatre in London in 2011. He has collaborated with numerous artists, companies and theatres. His previous directing credits include the sell-out run of the critically acclaimed Misty monologue by Arinze Kene.

This play is a political one, but it is also relatable and funny! It takes a look at the 'every-day' and explores how that becomes politicised.
