Based on the Shakespeare tragedy, *Hamlet* will see Eddie Izzard take on 23 characters in a unique retelling of the iconic play. Book now to see the strictly-limited six-week run.

 About Eddie Izzard: Hamlet

Eddie Izzard is best known as an actor, multi-lingual comedian, multi-marathon runner, and trailblazing political candidate. Her television and film credits include Oceans Twelve, Oceans Thirteen, Absolutely Anything, and Six Minutes to Midnight.

The Shakespeare tragedy follows Prince Hamlet, who, after the recent passing of his father, the King of Denmark, is determined to avenge his father's death and initiate revenge, setting off a series of events that will destroy both family and state. Eddie will be portraying men, women, ghosts, scholars, tyrants, courtiers, lovers, fools, and poets.

Speaking about the upcoming show, Izzard said, “I have always gravitated towards playing complex and challenging characters, and Hamlet is the ultimate. This is a production for everyone, a timeless drama with an accidental hero. Selina, Mark, and I want audiences to see and hear an accessible, touching, scary, and dramatic Hamlet.”

Eddie’s interpretation of all characters has a level of formal simplicity that makes you enjoy the show without noticing the time passing by, but at the same time has the powerful warm connection and plausibility of a kid’s “let’s pretend that”. This kind of commitment and silent deal with the audience makes us basking in a warm awe and appreciation of this great performer’s work.

I’m nearly 73, have never got on with reading Shakespeare since I was at senior school. For some reason I decided I wanted to see this and I was not disappointed in any way, I understood what was going on and enjoyed it to the extent that I ordered a copy of Hamlet on the train on the way home. Eddie Izzard was superb, thank you Eddie!

It was amazing and had me on the edge of my seat. Because the acting was not haughty or over-played, to me it felt a lot more natural and (even though it was a one woman show with no props or scenery) believable than some of the more famed productions and films of the play. The lack of distraction made me focus fully on considering the beautiful language and meaning. For me, it was easy to differentiate between and empathise with the various characters. There was also genuine humour where appropriate. I know some critics have been harsh, but I prefer to trust my own judgement. This felt like Shakespeare for everyone, and got a well deserved standing ovation from the entire audience.

This is another Eddie masterpiece and I am so glad I didn’t miss it. She has sooo much talent.

A real tour de force. A huge accomplishment. And a true illustration of Eddie Izzard's many talents. What a performance. Pathos, humour, improvisations, this version of Hamlet had it all. I am sure the Bard would have loved it. Though Shakespearean scholars may turn up their noses. But, for me and last night's audience, it was terrific.

Totally immersed from start to finish, such an imaginative and artistic interpretation. A one woman's masterpiece!

Magnificent. The Izzard Hamlet was nothing short of superb. Eddie brings her extraordinary talent for engagement to the great play and in so doing made it very accessible and enjoyable. Cutting many lines to reduce the running time made this ‘Hamlet concentrate’ and the performance was none the worse for the omitted material. It may have been very tempting for Eddie and the production team to use his comedic skills to make this a comedy version, quite a few lines lend themselves to such an interpretation and in her hands it would have been amazing. But no, with a few wonderfully amusing exceptions and nods to the audience, this was Hamlet at its dramatic best, a serious version showcasing the Tragedy as intended. An enormous pleasure to attend and a Hamlet that will comfortably join the great productions. ??????????
