Heather comes to London’s Lyric Hammersmith

Roy Williams presents his new play Heather, a radical retelling of Ibsen’s play Hedda Gabler, retold for a contemporary audience at the Lyric Hammersmith this autumn.

What is Heather about?

Free-spirit Heather is a newlywed living a life she always dreamed of.

She hates it.

Trapped in a life governed by social expectations and outdated ideals, she wrestles with thoughts of liberty and passion that are now just a memory. So, when Heather sees her mind and life begin to unfurl, she knows she must take control and break free of the box she finds herself in.

Roy Williams’ new offering

Following the triumph of Go, Girl (part of Out West), Roy Williams returns with Heather, a new version of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. Williams tells the story through a lens of class division, racial identity, and addiction. Award-winning director Ola Ince (Is God Is) directs the production. Cast to be announced.
