The actors were on point, great fast delivery and well worked up characters, but such a poorly worked out script, no lighting or prop business to bring it to life, unrealistic costume (who dresses like that). Felt like a naive student experimental piece. Also bought 2 tickets but when we needed to change them, we were charged a way higher price for the new ones, even though there were similarly priced ones available. Given no option on that but with that and the train strike it became a very expensive trip to the theatre.
I was very pleasantly surprised, and quite captivated, by this evening of excellent acting. It's astonishing how two such good actors were able to convey the different stages of life so convincingly. The story unfolded in a quite unpredictable way too. I came away impressed, and with plenty to think about.
It was an excellent production. The actors were outstanding and the script riveting. Should be in the West End! Have told many to go and see it. It makes one reflect on friendships and random events in life. Do not miss.
A delightful theatre that I hadn’t previously discovered. The play was thoroughly enchanting - clever, funny and bittersweet. Beautifully acted with a strength and tenderness from the two consummate leads which left me quite emotionally drained! I managed to purchase tickets last minute for a bargain price. Well worth it.
Unusual play, very well acted, music was lovely, story very well told.
An incredible performance on every level! My husband, son and I were totally captivated and blown away by Sophie Thompson and Charles Edwards, in the Ballad of Hattie and James. We were captivated from the off and never once lost concentration, or belief, in these richly woven characters as their story played out across the decades. Such was their skill it took no imagination on our parts to consider these actors age 6 or 60, with only the change of a coat; such was their skill. We felt all the richer for an evening spent spellbound, as we pieced together their story, enthralled. Bravo!!
Brilliant show. Last minute decision to go and was very impressed. Would definitely recommend.
