About Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain is a tale of love, loss and societal pressures. When Ennis and Jack, two young men living in extreme rural poverty in tight, conservative communities, take jobs on the isolated Brokeback Mountain, their lives are forever changed by an intense connection that sparks between them. As they navigate their unexpected emotional bond and the treacherous terrain of their own hearts, they must confront the harsh realities of their society and the tragic consequences of their forbidden love.
Dan Gillespie Sells' soulful and haunting Country and Western melodies form the backbone of Brokeback Mountain, infusing the play with a powerful sense of longing and desire. With every note and chord, the music immerses the audience in the emotional landscape of Ennis and Jack's illicit love.
The cast and creatives of Brokeback Mountain
Making their highly anticipated West End stage debuts, Mike Faist and Lucas Hedges bring to life the unforgettable characters of Jack and Ennis. Brokeback Mountain is directed by Jonathan Butterell, the creative force behind the hit musical and film, Everybody's Talking About Jamie. Brokeback Mountain features original music by Dan Gillespie Sells and is performed by the extraordinary singer, Eddi Reader, accompanied by her onstage Country and Western band: Sean Green (piano/MD), Meelie Traill (upright bass), Julian Jackson (chromatic harmonica), and BJ Cole (pedal steel guitar).

fantastic
What a wonderful production! Absolutely heartbreaking. So glad I saw it before it finished it was pretty amazing.
Beautiful and raw performances by all actors. The music was captivating and created such an incredible atmosphere. I laughed, cried and watched in awe. Such detail in everything that was presented and it was obvious every moment was perfectly rehearsed.
Amazing. Actors live music an incredibly powerful performance.
Raw and tender at the same time. The 360 degree stage gives you more intimacy and connection with the characters, which it is essential for a play like this one.
Great acting and music
Unfortunately, I left the theatre quite disappointed after seeing Brokeback Mountain. While the theatre itself (sohoplace) is great, with great views from all seats, the play wasn't. The two key actors had no chemistry at all and overplayed the piece so that it ended up being ridiculous rather than moving. The live country music was a nice touch but couldn't save the play as a whole. All told, the play doesn't do justice to the movie or the short story.
This show was amazing. The actors were excellent, the accompanying sound track amazing, and the whole experience was captivating.
It is an amazing play. Even though it just a small cast but the story and the pace really good !
Great play. Great venue. Little tight on the leg room. One of the nicest theatres I’ve ever been to. Very sad play. Well acted.
Unfortunately (though there was no announcement about it) Lucas hedges was not playing Enis. This was played by an understudy. Although I can only imagine how difficult this would be- I found that there just wasn’t the connection that was so needed between jack and enis. Overall- disappointing. However on positive side- music was very good as was the actor playing Jack (excellent)
Great show, felt really intimate and engaging. Fantastic cast, band and singers. Would recommend
