Touching The Void London Duke of York's Theatre tickets on sale now!

Tom Morris’ most-accomplished project since the acclaimed War Horse, is now playing on London's West End after enjoying a sell-out world premiere in 2018. Based on the best-selling memoir by Joe Simpson and adapted by David Greig, Touching the Void tickets for the Duke of York's Theatre run are bound to be highly sought after just as they were at the Bristol Old Vic.

What is the Touching The Void London play about?

Joe Simpson’s internationally best-selling memoir and the adapted BAFTA-winning film follows his struggle after he stares death in the face. The story looks at the mental battle Simpson faces when fighting for survival in the Andes in 1985. Unable to climb to safety from a crevasse, he finds himself trapped, both physically and mentally as he hovers on the brink of death. Alongside this tragedy is the unforgettable dilemma that Simon Yates suffers. He, on the other hand, is perched on an unsteady snow-cliff, with high winds threatening his safety even further, as he tries desperately to save his climbing partner who hangs on a rope below. Despite knowing the risks, he makes the perilous decision to cut the rope, changing both of their lives forever.

Touching the Void in the West End

Artistic Director at the Bristol Old Vic, Tom Morris (War Horse, The Grinning Man), brings his unique style to the show along with Artistic Director from the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, David Greig, who lends his award-winning writing skills to the first stage adaptation of Simpson’s story. This critically acclaimed play comes from some of the best in the field and will have you completely gripped and simultaneously on the edge of your seat. Keep checking back on our pages for news on casting and further creatives.

It was a Christmas gift for my husband , who has read the book and seen the film , next best thing was to see the play which was excellent .

Andrew Mathews

Great play

Darryl

One of the best shows we have seen . Acting was superb, set was excellent and storyline kept a tension all the way through .

MRS P J NIXON

Illness unfortunately meant we were unable to attend. Family ( including two secondary school pupils) however used the tickets & were very impressed,

Nicola J Gillham

An excellent production and great stiory telling. V moving

JULIE HOYLE

Lively and well portrayed considering how hard the story must have been to turn into theatre.

Anna Wright

Liked this show but it fell a little short on my expectations given the great reviews. The staging/set design felt a little rudimentary. Yes the chair arrangement used to represent the climb training worked reasonably well and I understand why the climbers had to ascend horizontally given the limitations of the stage but it all felt a little too rudimentary. It lacked sophistication and felt as though the production had never got beyond its workshopping. Also, a small thing, but crucial, we were half way back and to the side of the stalls and our view of a lot of the action, much of which took place fairly low on the stage, was not great at all because of the rake in the theatre. This could easily have been rectified by raising the front of the stage somehow. Producers should check out view from seats in various parts of theatre when staging something like this.

Guy Kenyon

Spectacular but minimal character development

B Szczech

Excellent service and show. Easy to book and print tickets

good play.

Play was not that exciting. Actors not that convincing in their roles- rather insipid/ flat. Delivered in a very functional way- no depth 0f character or passion. Didn't inspire me.

Mr D Tompkins

Clever adaptation of the book and close and honest version. I accept the need to explain the technical explanations to a general audience. I was very impressed but the set mountain design.

London Theatre Review: Touching The Void

The survival story at the heart of Touching The Void is one most climbers have likely discussed in alpine bars, chucking that grave hypothetical back and forth – “what would you have done in Simon Yates’ position?”
