UK Premiere of Voices of the Amazon — Sisters Grimm coming to the Sadler's Wells!
Following the Grammy Award nominated success of INALA, a Zulu ballet performed with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Sisters Grimm return with the tale of a water spirit from the Amazon River, who ventures deep into the rainforest in search of a cure for her dying sister. She soon finds that the forest is not as abundant as it was.
Award-winning American choreographer Helen Pickett, who has worked with the likes of Scottish Ballet and Royal Ballet of Flanders, fuses ballet, contemporary dance and capoeira with a lush musical score born of a collaboration with Brazilian songwriters and world-renowned percussionists, Olodum.

I purchased 5 tickets and paid 138.50 (Order No.SSC12396) However when we collected our tickets at the box office they were worth only 23.00 each, ie I should have been charged a total of 115.00 At no stage was I told that there would be a booking charge of 23.50 by London Theatre.
Excellent show with great dancing and music. We thoroughly enjoyed this extremely professional production.
Positives: 1. Great live band/music score. 2. Energetic performance. 3. Powerful vocals. Negatives: 1. Sat in row B. Having two sets of spot lights, either side of us, shining brightly throughout the performance, was very distracting and spoilt the enjoyment. Not sure why they were kept on. 2. Very cheap props - other than changing the stage lighting background, no props/change of sets used. For the price of the tickets, this was a big let down. 3. Cheap costume design.
Theatre was excellent. View brilliant. Only downside was a family with young children who talked very loudly throughout the performance and found it difficult to keep still. I feel children under 10 - 12 years of age should go to a matinee performance so they can all ruin each other's experience.
The show was very good. People could not take their eyes from the show after the break the show ended extremely soon. It was like there was no end, or no end at all. For the price of the tickets my belief and others around myself it could have been a little longer. It didn't last 1 and a half hour. So the price could be less as well. But the dance was fantastic, the monkey with its head upside down and half arms up was beautiful I do not have words to express my delight.
Story very relevant for today. Character dancing great and good mix of styles. Music brilliant. Sound balance on the singing not so good, words indistinct a lot of the time which is a pity as it was telling the story, sometimes 'drowned by the music, other times personal mike set up bad. It was a good job that I read the song words before in the programme. Note the photo on the poster/front of programme was not taken from the show we saw on stage.
